A clear glass base supports an upholstered reclining seat in Coalesce, Studio Truly Truly’s exploration of material contrasts.

Coalesce is an easy chair which comprises a bold juxtaposition between a hard, transparent glass base and a bulbous seat upholstered in the Gentle 2 knitted textile by Kvadrat Febrik. The designers were particularly interested in exploring the effects of physical pressure on knitted textiles.

Studio Truly Truly settled on a design that reveals the beauty of the compressed textiles as seen through the clear glass, as well as their fullness when allowed to bulge out over the base. To achieve this effect, the designers employed a special upholstery technique which leaves the textile slightly looser than usual, allowing it to stretch, expand and contract to the greatest possible degree.
